Why your children need to know Astronomy!

This has nothing to do with running and I am sure that knowing astronomy, will not help your children succeed in life, but I am an advocate that all children learn the planets (at least the ones in our galaxy).

We got our Son (months ago), the planets and stuck them to his ceiling over his bed, in the proper order (I actually had to rearrange them because I put them in the wrong order, as he was quick to point out). Now he can name all the planets in order and is very proud of this accomplishment.

Now here is the reason all children should now their astronomy, at night, when he is being tucked into bed and the stories have all been read (right now we are reading the wizard of oz) he tells me or my wife "I love you all the way to the moon, to Jupiter, to the sun, to Pluto (even though it was declassified as a planet, he knows it is a loooooooong way out there) and back." Now that is a long way and a lot of love.

Is 32 that old????

I remember when I was in high school, we would play basketball all day long in the heat and never slow down, bounce out of bed the next morning and do it all over again.

This morning I realized that 32 is a lot older than 18. Yesterday at lunch I went to the gym and got a quick run in, along with some weightlifting. After work, I went to a friends house and played street hockey for about 3 hours and basketball for about another hour.

When I woke up this morning, I can barley move. Everything is sore and I am walking like I need to rent a hover round, just to get through the day.

Am I really that old???

Dad Strikes Back

Not really strikes back, but I managed to get my long run in this weekend and followed it up a a brisk 2 mile recovery today at lunch. I feel like I am back in the driver seat with my training and ready to pack the miles on.

I will admit that without my wife none of this would be possible. She encourages me to reach my goal and manages the kids at the same time. She is amazing.

Tough Week

Everything is winning this week, except the running. I haven't run since last Saturday, this is not good. Hopefully, I will be able to get out on Saturday, for another long run and get back on schedule.

3 5k's

3 5K's in 3 days and my body if feeling it, but I did get my run in today.

Family 1 - Marathon Training 1

Works seems to get the rest

At least tomorrow is a rest day. No running, except to chase my son and daughter of course.

Mornings can be difficult

I have had every intention of getting up this morning to complete today's run. I laid out all my running clothes, socks and shoes. Even set out the ipod, so I could just get dressed and run, when my alarm went off.

Then entered life... 2 minutes to the alarm going off, my daughter wakes up crying, she is only 10 months old, so what she is telling me is, I am tired, but I am not going back to sleep in my bed. Being the compassionate husband that I am and knowing that my wife loves her sleep, I nix the run, pick up the girl and snuggle in the recliner for an hour more of sleep for her. I, of course, am wide awake, thinking... when will I get to run today. (hopefully at lunch)

Family 1 - Marathon training 0

Author's note - I enjoyed my daughters hour of sleep more than I would have enjoyed an hour of running. She is the sweetest.
